I created this cooling necklace for my wife when we lived in India. The heat there wasn't just uncomfortable for her. It was unbearable. She spent her days moving from one air-conditioned building to the next, planning every errand around the shade, dreading summer. When she was pregnant, it got even worse.
I went looking for something that could actually help. What I found were wet towels filled with chemicals, freezable neck coolers that gave out after 45 minutes, and bulky cooling fans she would never wear in public. Nothing was good enough.
So I went to work.
Back when Nano-Ice was just an idea, we tried everything. One of those experiments was a cooling baseball cap, handmade in a small shop in Mumbai. The hat never became the product. But every experiment brought us one step closer.
What we finally landed on was a way to make water freeze smarter. No chemicals. No gels. Just purified water, organized at a molecular level to pack more cold into a smaller space. Let’s talk about what’s behind this innovation. The technology inside the cooling spheres is based on a water-based phase-change material that freezes water in a more efficient manner. The liquid frozen inside the spheres of the Nano-Ice Cooling Necklace is the cutting edge development of the energy storage industry that Sam helped develop in India. The way we get the cooling effect to last longer is based on what happens during the freezing process; The Nano-Ice crystals interlock with each other more efficiently than standard frozen water, which means a longer cooling experience for you the customers (see graphic below).
